Hella establishes two new development locations in Romania

The automotive supplier Hella, which operates under the Forvia umbrella brand, is further expanding its European R&D network in the electronics sector with two new development locations in the Romanian cities of Iași and Oradea. At the new locations, the development of future-oriented product technologies along key market trends such as automated driving and electromobility will be driven forward.

The two locations have already started operations this autumn with a core team of around ten engineers each. Within the next three to four years, a total of up to 300 new jobs are to be created at the two locations.

“The demand for electronics solutions is continuously increasing in view of the ongoing change in the industry. With our two new development locations, we are additionally strengthening our position in order to meet the high demand for our products,” says Björn Twiehaus, Managing Director Electronics at Hella. “We have already been represented in Romania for many years with essential electronics locations. For example, sophisticated control units are already being developed there. In this respect, it was obvious for us to build on this network and further strengthen our presence there.”

At Hella‘s Technical Center in Oradea, the company primarily plans to develop new products for electric vehicles. In this context, Hella mentioned battery management systems and voltage converters in particular. The Iași location is initially entrusted with software development and testing for 77 GHz radar sensors, a central key technology for assisted and automated driving, among other things.

“We decided to expand our network at the Oradea and Iași locations because they offer excellent conditions. As university cities and important economic centres in the north of the country, they have a large potential of highly qualified specialists, which is particularly important for us as a technology-strong automotive supplier,” says Gelu Murariu, General Manager of Hella Romania.

Hella has been present in Romania for over 17 years and currently employs around 4,500 people there. In addition to a regional administration centre, Hella also has three production facilities and three further development locations in Romania.
